Minor Description
A minor in Biology provides an exposure to the breadth of biological disciplines for students who do not seek the more expansive curriculum afforded by the Biology major. It is appropriate for students majoring in an area outside the life sciences. A minor might also be warranted for students with allied health career interests, elementary education plans, or similar goals for which a life sciences major is not expected.
The minor requires successful completion of six biology courses, as described below:
Two (2) required courses:
BIO 160 - Foundations of Biological Inquiry
BIO 165 - From Ecosystems to Organisms
Three (3) biology elective courses, one from each of Lists 1-3 below:
One (1) additional biology elective course (numbered between 100 and 499), or
BIO 970 - Biology Independent Study/ Research (1 unit or two 0.5 units)
At least two courses must be at the 200 level or above.
