Muhlenberg’s English Literatures Program’s flexible curriculum allows you to explore diverse literature while tailoring the major to your interests. You’ll study written, dramatic, filmic and transmedia texts spanning British, American and Postcolonial literatures; African American, Global Black and Native American literatures; Jewish, women and LGBTQ+ writers; and literatures addressing genocide, human rights and ecology.
As you hone your critical reading skills, you’ll also practice writing across genres including fiction, poetry, plays, screenplays, criticism, journalism and more. Through creative and critical writing and dynamic class discussions, you’ll engage with writers of the past and present and explore how listening to each other’s stories can create a more equitable world. You’ll also learn broadly applicable skills that will enable you to chart a fulfilling career path.

Getting involved with the student newspaper has introduced me to new people and experiences that have changed the way I look at writing, journalism, and myself as a whole.
Maddie Davidson ’25 received a Youth Climate Action Fund Grant from the City of Allentown to create a tree science and stewardship project at Allentown School District’s Muhlenberg Elementary School. She will also present at a worldwide conference called CityLab being held October 14-16 in Mexico City.
The College’s campus, its performing arts program and its public health program were all ranked fourth in the state. Muhlenberg was also among the top 10 small colleges, liberal arts colleges and communications programs in Pennsylvania.
