Daniela Viale teaches Italian and French at Muhlenberg, where she infuses the language classroom with enthusiasm and fosters an interactive and culturally rich environment. She previously taught Italian and French at the University of Pennsylvania, at Drexel University and at Wesleyan University, where she honed skills that she now employs to the benefit of Muhlenberg students.
She co-created (together with her colleague, Prof. Daniel Leisawitz) Spunti, a fully-fledged Open Educational Resource for elementary Italian students. This OER eliminates the exorbitant cost of a traditional textbook, and is used not only at Muhlenberg but also at a growing number of other institutions. She has also designed her own original intermediate-level Italian curriculum, which she continuously enhances and enriches, and is working to make an Open Education Resource, as well.
In addition to her language courses, Viale teaches the course Eatalians: An Exploration of Italian Culinary Culture. She also led a group of Muhlenberg students in a semester abroad in Florence, where she taught the course Memory and Memories of WWII in Italy.
