The Russian Studies Minor is an interdisciplinary minor program that combines instruction in Russian language with the study of Russian literature, culture, history, and politics. Professors from departments across campus contribute their expertise to courses that allow students to explore Russia from diverse viewpoints and through various methodologies. The Russian Studies Minor is of value for students who wish to focus their liberal arts education on this dynamic and strategically important geo-political region as part of an awareness of the role of Russia in world history and current affairs. The Russian language is designated as a critical language by the US government and is considered to be strategic for US national security interests. The Russian Minor exposes students to a variety of disciplines in order to help them understand the country’s rich culture, history, and politics. Combining a Minor in Russian Studies with study of other academic disciplines (for example, political science, international studies, mathematics, history, business and economics, theatre, film studies, or public health) affords students a unique perspective and understanding of Russia in the world.
