Why study Russian?
The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 ushered in a new chapter in the history of Russia and Eastern Europe. Russia embarked on a challenging experiment in political, economic, social and cultural transformations - the outcome of which will undoubtedly impact not only Russia's future, but that of the world as well. Recent developments in Russia have already significantly affected the nature of Russian Studies in the United States and throughout the world.
