Departmental Staged Readings
Student Director Applications
- Anon(ymous) and Vinegar Tom
March 22-23 - Student Director applications
due Friday, Dec. 6
These Readings have been postponed to the spring semester.
Students are invited to apply to direct two staged readings, under the mentorship of Dr. Leslie Hill. The readings will be held March 22 and 23.
Eligibility
- To be eligible to apply, you must have completed one directing course.
- If you are currently involved in another production process, you may also apply to participate in this experience only if doing so does not pull you from rehearsals or performances for another production to which you have already committed.
The application process has three steps:
- Read the plays! Scripts are linked below.
- Fill out the Director Application form!
- Include on the form either 200-300 words OR a link to an audio file (3 minutes or less) discussing which play reading you would like to direct and why.
Auditions
Audition table reads are scheduled to take place in January. If you are applying to direct, you should be available for this time slot.
Rehearsals
A total of five four-hour rehearsals will be scheduled in the weeks before and after Spring Break, to be set once directors and casts are secured.
Performance Dates
Recital Hall, Empie Theatre
Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23
Note that these performances will be free and will not require tickets.
Anon(ymous)
by Naomi Iizuka
Separated from his mother, a young refugee called Anon journeys through the United States, encountering a wide variety of people — some kind, some dangerous and cruel — as he searches for his family. From a sinister one-eyed butcher to beguiling bar-flies to a sweatshop, Anon must navigate through a chaotic, ever-changing landscape in this entrancing adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey.
Vinegar Tom
by Caryl Churchill
In the oppressive atmosphere of the 17th century it’s dangerous to be a woman without a husband. It’s dangerous to be a woman and different. It’s dangerous to be a woman and use the healing herbs. It’s dangerous to be called a witch; innocence gives no protection. And with strikingly modern lyrics and music the show highlights how women’s bodies remain a battleground.
