Marc Chagall
(Russian, 1887-1985)
Untitled, circa 1961
Color lithograph
Although influenced by the major art movements of the early twentieth century including Expressionism, Cubism and Fauvism, Marc Chagall possessed his own unique style. Based on Russian folk tales, Chagall’s art takes on a spiritual quality that is equally captivating and lyrical. The color lithograph in the college’s permanent collection is among one of the finest examples of Fantastic Art in the collection and a good example of Chagall’s interest in the art of printmaking.
