Curtis Keim Kicks off ‘Berg’s Africana Lecture Series

Keim is a professor of history and political science at Moravian College who delves into the corners of American consciousness to examine misperceptions about Africa. His book, Mistaking Africa: Curiosities and Inventions of the American Mind, now in its second edition, examines the role that popular media plays in the creation of our mental images of Africa and addresses how the most prevalent myths prevent a true understanding of the enormously diverse peoples and cultures of Africa.
The “Seeing Africa” lecture series is the first part of an academic year-long series which provides the campus with an opportunity to interact with African scholars and scholars who study Africa. Speakers were selected for their ability and enthusiasm to share their expertise on Africa with the Muhlenberg campus. Ultimately, the goal of the series is to create a better understanding of the importance and value of Africa in the world.
