Muhlenberg was not only among the 511 schools selected for The Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges: 2025 Edition; it also made the guide’s Top 50 Green Colleges list.
“At Muhlenberg, we demonstrate our commitment to sustainability in a variety of ways, from the academic programs we offer to the food we serve in the Wood Dining Commons to the decision we made to construct the new Fahy Commons for Public Engagement and Innovation to the highest green-building standards,” says President Kathleen Harring. “We are proud to be recognized for our efforts to work toward a cleaner, brighter future.”
The Princeton Review chose the colleges for this edition of the Guide based on a survey it conducted in 2023-2024 of administrators at nearly 600 colleges about their institutions' sustainability-related policies, practices and programs. The company also surveyed students attending the colleges about their "green" campus experiences.
The profiles in the guide include The Princeton Review’s Green Ratings of the schools, which the company tallies on a scale of 60 to 99. Muhlenberg received a Green Rating score of 98. Muhlenberg is also #32 on the list of Top 50 Green Colleges in the guide. The Princeton Review tallied the ranking list based on data from its surveys of college administrators and its surveys of students at the colleges.
Muhlenberg recently earned a STARS Gold rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. In April, Muhlenberg's newest academic building, the Fahy Commons for Public Engagement and Innovation, became the first project in the world to achieve Core Living Building Certification. Also, earlier this year, Muhlenberg and eight other institutions joined forces to bring a cutting-edge, large-scale solar facility online.
